Saturday 11 Jan 2014

Up earlyish (for us!) to a bright dawn - it doesn't get light until 8.00 am - and a reasonable get away. Today it is a run along the coast to Camping La Bella Vista at Manilva, just south of Estepona on the Costa del Sol.

First priority is refill the gas bottles then some groceries for the weekend. The Aires book told us of two places close to Malaga which were almost on our route so set the satnav to the one by the airport, which we found easily. However, locating the LPG pump was something else.... It was hidden by a van who was taking his time; then I couldn't get the pump to connect. Fortunately one of the attendants saw me struggling and came over to assist - he had a struggle too but got it to go eventually.

It's understandable that the roads are very busy along this stretch of the coast, which consists of a seeming unending vista of apartments - some unfinished -, hotels, shopping centres and all the paraphernalia that goes with them. A definite holiday area, but not for us. Dived off the A7 somewhere around Marbella to find a supermarket and after judiciously avoiding the height barriers, crept into a Lidl which had enough room for us round the back. An hour and €73 later we were back in the van for lunch.

Then the short hop to Manilva, we quickly located the site and checked in for 3 nights. A few of the group had already arrived and a couple more turned up later. An excellent site with superb facilities, even if it is a bit close to the main road.

A walk, a meal and we'll probably adjourn to the bar later to meet some new friends.
