Thursday 6 March 2014

True to form, as soon as we decide to move on so the weather improves. Another warm and sunny day saw us packing up ready to hit the road to Seville. We've enjoyed El Puerto de Santa Maria and will come back next year and stay a bit longer. Now we've established all the transport connections we'll venture a little further - there are supposed to be some lovely places around. Until next year then!

There is really only one road to Seville so after a quick call at Carrefour we took the Autovia, which became the NIV, a good fast run through pleasant countryside and the occasional "white town". Approaching the city it became quite busy as several main routes converge here to cross the Rio Guadalquivir.

Motorway bridge

Following the satnav and netbook, we negotiated quite a complicated motorway interchange before climbing onto the bridge. Seville is a sea-port and the bridge gave us a commanding view.

Port of Seville

The site we had chosen was an aire at Gelves, some 5km south of the city and recommended to us by a Brit couple who had stayed there. The satnav could only get us to the location but, for once, the instructions in the Aires book were the right way round and we found it quite easily - not forgetting the "Spanish Junction" - you take the right hand slip road to turn left......

Accessed through a controlled gate, the aire is actually a yacht marina with motorhome parking on the harbour wall, quite tight but very pleasant, overlooking the river and the harbour.

The view out of the window
Although still early afternoon, we deemed it a little late to try to go in to Seville today so had a late lunch and relax. Later we talked to another Brit couple who were full-timing and they gave us a couple of tips for visiting and also a tourist map.

Tomorrow we become tourists again.
